Funeral mass and vigil service have been held. Donations can be made to Mission San Juan Bautista, Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation, VNA Hospice or any of the above organizations that she took part in.

Laura’s family would like to thank her caregivers Kathy and Rodine Maldonado, her physician Dilshad Kheraj,D.O. and the VNA Hospice for their loving and personal attention.

 Laura passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2013, surrounded by family.

 Laura, born in Kulm, ND on April 14, 1915, moved to Lodi, CA when she was five years old. Her family later settled in Gilroy where she graduated from Gilroy High School. Laura married Herman Botelho of San Juan Bautista and enjoyed 54 years of marriage before his death in 1990.

 Laura devoted her life to helping her community. She was active with the Brownies, Mission San Juan Bautista, was president of the Mission Guild, and was Costume Mistress for the San Juan Pageant. She was a charter member of the Wednesday Club as well as a member of the San Juan Library Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and the San Juan Historical Society.

 Laura helped establish the Children’s Home Society (now the Kinship Center) in her own home in 1955 and served on the Children’s Home Society Central Coast Board for six years. She was heavily involved with Hazel Hawkins Hospital, serving as director on the hospital district board for 12 years and serving as president for the hospital auxiliary. In her later years, she volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society, taking patients to their out-of-town treatments.

 Laura’s greatest loves were gardening, flowers, the Giants, and family.     She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Cain, and son-in-law, Larry Cain of San Juan Bautista; grandchildren Denise (Maurice) Anderson of Virginia, Annette (Greg) Rhines of Marina, Susanne (Kamran) Delavarpour of Virginia, Katherine (Jesus) Zavala of San Juan Bautista, and Robert Cain of Florida. She’s also survived by her great-grandchildren: Neda, Sean, and Andre Delavarpour, Emilio and Alyssa Zavala, Sofia and Luke Anderson, and Gabrielle Cain.
