The first time Silver Creek and Live Oak squared off, the two teams battled through two overtimes before the Raiders got the upper hand.
Round 2 nearly had the same result.
Silver Creek fought off a late Acorn surge to come away 7-6 victors at the Live Oak pool.
“They never quit and made a good effort. (Silver Creek) is a good team,” said coach Mack Haines.
In the first contest, Live Oak (4-2 in the Santa Teresa Division) trailed 10-6 at the half. This time, the two teams were knotted at 2.
The defenses on both sides were stout through the first half, with each side scoring single goals in each of the two quarters.
The second half saw a break out in scoring, thanks to five shots finding the back of the cage in the third quarter.
The Raiders started the drive with a goal in the opening quarter, but Jessica Lawrence — as she had in the first half — answered in kind with her third goal of the contest.
Silver Creek later capitalized on an ejection to go up 4-3, but Lawrence again found the equalizer a short time later.
The Raiders found a way to shut down Lawrence at the end of the period.
Silver Creek went up 5-4 at the end of the quarter and came out in the fourth capitalizing on a turnover and a Live Oak defensive breakdown to go up 6-4.
Lawrence pulled Live Oak to within one, but Silver Creek found the back of the cage to go back up by two.
The Acorns then played shutdown defense, forcing several turnovers and denied the Raiders a chance to put the game away.
That eventually turned into points as Morgan Teddleton launched a shot from outside two meters and giving the Acorns new life.
But it was as close as Live Oak came.
The defense continued to be stout and keeper Macy Linder came up with a couple of key stops.
But with less than a minute to go, Live Oak forced another turnover, but couldn’t get its offense set as time expired without a shot.
