U.S. Forces Should Leave Iraq Dec. 1

Dear Editor,

Congress should pass legislation funding safe withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, with no funds to keep Americans in harm’s way to privatize Iraqi oil. Withdrawal should begin Dec. 1, 2007, and all troops out May 1, 2008. Make it clear to the president and his Republican henchmen that a veto will lead to the same funding legislation with different timelines. Nov. 1, 2007 through April 1, 2008. Also make it clear that this is as good as it gets for the Bush war. No timeline, no funds. It is not acceptable to sacrifice 1,000 additional American lives so big oil can control two thirds of Iraqi oil reserves.

Police Officers Were Courteous, Kind

Dear Editor,

I want to thank the Morgan Hill police officers who so promptly responded to my call June 17. They were all courteous, kind, professional and they treated me with respect and caring. The call was a tragic one but these men and women made it as easy and painless as possible.

We all need to treat our police officers, EMTs, fire department personnel and dispatchers with more respect. They put their lives on the line every day for all of us. Let’s do what we can to show them our wholehearted support with a kind word, a thank you and voting in a raise the next time it comes up on a ballot. We need more good police, well paid, appreciated, respected and helped by our community. Thank you again for being there for us. God bless you.

More Good Times in Morgan Hill

Dear Editor,

It felt like old times … listening to music and eating ice cream from BookSmart. The final Friday night dance was held on Sept. 7 in the parking lot by BookSmart, and it was the ideal location. There was plenty of room to dance, chairs and tables to sit at, and goodies from BookSmart to munch. Snacks and dinner could also be bought at the wonderful Chinese restaurant nearby. People wandered in and out of BookSmart, chatting, reading, or just browsing. It felt right. I hope the chamber will consider changing the venue of the Friday Night dances next summer. Change can be difficult, but this just makes sense. No streets have to be closed down, set-up is much easier (it can be done several hours ahead), more people can congregate together comfortably, and it gives everybody a good excuse to wander through the bookstore and buy a book, or at least, an ice cream cone.

Also, if you haven’t caught the great Comedy Club at the Community Theater on the last Thursday evening of each month, you have missed one of the best things Morgan Hill has to offer. Rosy’s at the Beach puts on a delicious spread of free appetizers and provides very reasonably priced beverages for purchase. There is such a rich variety of very talented and hysterically funny comedy acts to always generate plenty of laughter – the best medicine in today’s stressful world. Join the fun and support all the sponsors who bring us Thursday night comedy and Friday night dances and make Morgan Hill the special place it is.
