ABANDONED?
“I am concerned about the now empty old Target building in Cochrane Plaza. How long is it going to sit empty? WIll there be another store going in that spot?”
RED PHONE
The Red Phone contacted Garrett Toy, Morgan Hill’s director of Business Assistance and Housing Services, to find out the fate of this property on Cochrane Road. Toy informed us that there is a party interested in leasing the old Target building, but until the financial details have been worked out and approved, the potential renter prefers to remain unnamed. The time frame for the business to open at this location has not been disclosed at this time.
The Red Phone will stay on top of this and report back to our readers when information becomes available. Until then, we’re all on hold.
FELL IN A POT HOLE
“As you are traveling on the newly paved portion of Walnut Grove Drive, you will come to San Pedro Avenue. If you turn right, you are greeted by a huge pothole in the street. In fact, this street is so badly deteriorated that half of the right lane is missing. Please get the City of Morgan Hill to repair this portion of the street.”
RED PHONE
The Red Phone took a trip to the intersection of Walnut Grove Drive and San Pedro Avenue to see for ourselves and, sure enough, we couldn’t really tell where the right edge of the road was supposed to be because the asphalt is so badly broken.
We called Mori Struve, Morgan Hill’s deputy director for Public Works and Operations, to alert him to this situation. Struve sent out a crew to assess the damaged roadway and reported that the work to repair the street is already in his schedule and should be completed within the next two weeks.
U-TURN MAYHEM
“I am writing to question the safety of the intersection of Bayo Claros Circle and E. Dunne Avenue. There have been numerous times when I have seen westbound Dunne Avenue drivers make a U-turn through the split island in order to pull into the LDS Church parking lot to avoid having to drive further up to the Pine Way intersection in order to make the U-turn.
“What ends up happening is that the vehicle attempting to make a U-turn is completely stopped and blocking traffic in the left lane of E. Dunne Avenue because it is waiting for eastbound traffic to clear. This results in unnecessarily clogged westbound traffic and angry drivers, even though the U-turn is actually legal. There isn’t a No U-turn sign posted.
“Can a No U-turn sign be posted at the Bayo Claros Circle intersection for the safety of westbound traffic?”
RED PHONE
Sounds like a dangerous situation for drivers to stop in the left lane to make a U-turn. The Red Phone called Mori Struve, Morgan Hill’s deputy director for Public Works and operations. Struve agreed to check out the intersection and then talk to Scott Creer, the city’s senior engineer to make sure that there are no legal reasons for not posting a no U-turn sign at that location. This involves checking the road width on each side of the island among other considerations. The folks at Public Works will be getting back to the Red Phone shortly. Caller, we will keep you informed on the progress.
