Morgan Hill – A 30-year-old San Martin man was booked into Santa Clara County Jail early Monday morning after a fight Sunday night in which he allegedly beat a man unconscious, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.

Vidal Mendoza Zepeda was arrested for parole violation and battery causing serious bodily injury at approximately 11:30pm Sunday. He was apprehended near the intersection of Edmundson Avenue and Church Street.

Swing said officers responded to a call about a fight in the area. As Morgan Hill police officer Josh Norris neared the scene, he saw a Chevy Tahoe speeding away, Swing said. He pulled the vehicle over and detained the driver, who was Zepeda.

Meanwhile, officers found the victim of the alleged battery on the ground, unconscious. He was not responding to questions from the officers and not opening his eyes. He was treated at the scene by paramedics but refused further medical treatment when he regained consciousness.

Swing said a witness identified Zepeda as the suspect who knocked out the victim, a 20-year-old Morgan Hill man. According to the witness, there was a birthday party in a residence in the area, and Zepeda and the victim got into an argument inside the residence. They were arguing because Zepeda said the victim had “disrespected” Zepeda’s sister, Swing said.

As the victim was leaving the party, he was confronted by Zepeda, according to the witness. Zepeda allegedly struck him with his fist, and the victim went down.

The victim and Zepeda had been drinking, Swing said.
