Live Oak continued unbeaten in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mt. Hamilton Division with wins Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Acorns won a showdown with Leigh, edging the Longhorns 2-1 as Tricia Goularte won a pitcher’s duel with Carissa Theis. Each allowed just five hits.

Leigh struck first, scoring in the first as Kayla Pisano, moved to second on a Kat Pisano sacrifice, stole third and scored on Jessica Freedman’s sacrifice fly.

Theis pitched two-hit ball through five innings before the Acorns (9-2 overall, 5-0 BVAL) tied the game in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Sarah Locarnini and Taylor Sutton.

Brooke Willis was safe at second on an error in the seventh. Leigh (8-4, 2-2) set up to defense a bunt, and Sabrina LaCorte’s push bunt went through the infield for a double and an RBI.

In addition to solid pitching from Goularte, who is 8-2 overall, the Acorns were strong up the middle defensively with Locarnini and Sutton keeping balls from getting through the infield. Both Locarnini and Sutton were also 2 for 3.

Live Oak 5, Westmont 3

Kelly McDonald and Locarnini each had two hits Tuesday and Live Oak won at Westmont.

McDonald hit a double and triple, and Locarnini reached base three times, stole a base and knocked in a run for the Acorns, who banged out nine hits and took advantage of four Warriors errors.

Jenna Robertson followed McDonald’s triple with an RBI single in the second, and Brittney Ondich’s RBI base hit in the third scored Sutton, who walked, stole second and moved to third on an error.

Live Oak scored its other three runs in the fourth as LaCorte reached on error, Robertson sacrificed her to second, and Robin Nelson’s fielder’s choice moved LaCorte to third. An error allowed La Corte to score. Locarnini singled to score Nelson. Sutton’s single moved Locarnini to third, who scored on a wild pitch.

Tricia Goularte picked up the win. All runs against her were unearned.

The Acorns are in action Saturday at the Wilcox tournament at Mission College. Live Oak has games at 9am, 12:30 and 2:15 pm.
