Man arrested after returning to crime scene for interview
San Martin – A San Martin man was taken to Santa Clara County Jail for commercial burglary after he returned to the scene of his alleged crime with some of the stolen items.

Michael H. Dabecic, 29, was arrested Thursday at the Speedee Oil Change & Tune-Up in Tennant Station shopping center.

The garage was burglarized three times within the past two weeks, said Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson, most recently on Wednesday evening.

Each time, the burglar shattered a window in one of the rollup doors.

“They barely had time to replace the window from the last incident,” Sampson said.

Alarms were deactivated, and tools and other items were stolen, he added.

After Wednesday’s burglary, the manager of the garage was watching the surveillance video with MHPD detectives and told them he thought the suspect looked familiar.

“It turned out, this guy had worked in San Jose at another Speedee store for the same manager a year ago,” Sampson said.

But Dabecic had also recently applied for a job at the Tennant Station garage.

“One of the detectives suggested, if he had applied for a job, why not call him in for a job interview,” said Sampson. “And lo and behold, he came in for a job interview. Officers were waiting, and he was arrested.”

Sampson said Dabecic had some of the tools stolen from the garage in his vehicle, as well as CDs and a flashlight that had been stolen in the original burglary three weeks before.
