A San Jose woman was booked into Santa Clara County Jail early Saturday morning after an accident on Highway 101 that could have been deadly.

Anjannette Moreno, 38, of San Jose was first taken by ambulance to Kaiser Santa Teresa Hospital complaining of pain, treated and then released. She was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and for driving the wrong way on a highway causing injury, also a felony charge.

California Highway Patrol officer Chris Armstrong said the accident occurred at 12:59 a.m. Saturday morning. Moreno was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 north of Coyote Creek in a Mitsubishi Outlander, he said, and another vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, was driving southbound in the same lane. The driver of the Toyota tried to avoid Moreno’s vehicle, but could not, and they collided head on. The Toyota ended up in the center median, while Moreno’s vehicle spun out of control, finally stopping across both the number one and number two lanes. A third vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was behind the 4Runner and also swerved. The driver lost control and traveled to the right down a dirt embankment, damaging the Corolla. The Corolla’s driver was not injured, but both the passenger and the driver of the 4Runner were taken by CHP officers to Saint Louise Regional Hospital for treatment.
