Champions Academy Gymnastics recently completed the compulsory girls competitive season with a bang, crowning its second state champion in as many weeks.

In her first year of competition in gymnastics, Alexandra Dudschus, 9, wowed the crowd at the level-four state championship meet Dec. 1-2, in Rancho Cordova, Calif., scoring 37.95 to become the all-around state champion.

Not only is Dudschus the state champion in her age division, but her score was high enough to place her in the top six amongst more than 400 competitors in all age divisions combined.

In addition to winning the all-around title, she was also the beam champion and floor exercise champion.

Dudschus trains three days a week at Champions Academy.

Teammate Nikki Barsanti, 13, also in her first year of competition, just missed finishing in the top spot in her age division.

Despite a low score in her first event, the balance beam, Barsanti’s put her frustrations behind her and rebounded on her remaining three events, taking second place overall on both bars and the floor exercise.

Both girls advance to a higher level of competition next year.
