A fire is burning near Kern and Vickery avenues Thursday around

Firefighters have contained two separate fires that broke out in
north Gilroy this afternoon
– at the intersection of Kern and Vickery avenues and another in
a levee near Christopher High School on Day Road.
Firefighters have contained two separate fires that broke out in north Gilroy this afternoon – at the intersection of Kern and Vickery avenues and another in a levee near Christopher High School on Day Road.

The Kern Avenue fire – estimated as a few acres – is visible as far away as Third Street, said a woman by phone who lives on the corner of Mantelli Drive and Kern Avenue.

Two structures are threatened near the Kern Avenue fire, according to dispatchers.

Units from CalFire, San Martin and Morgan Hill have responded to the Kern Avenue fire.

At the levee fire, no structures are threatened and it’s being identified by dispatchers as a grass fire. That fire has since been extinguished.
