Sobrato boys and girls swimming clinched second place in the Santa Teresa Division on Wednesday by sweeping their final dual meet against Oak Grove at Sobrato High School.
The SHS boys won 132-43, and the girls triumphed 128-40. Both Sobrato teams finished 6-1.
Coming off a four-point loss to Prospect on April 21, the Lady Bulldogs completed their best season in the Blossom Valley Athletic League B conference.
“It’s a tough because we were so close to winning league, but the girls definitely worked hard and are on their way up,” SHS girls coach Kevin Paulsen said. “I’m confident both teams will move up to the A league soon.”
Sobrato competes in the Santa Teresa Division May 13-14 at Independence High School.
SOFTBALL
Sobrato beat Del Mar 13-1 Tuesday to remain on pace to finish second in the Santa Teresa Division and possibly earn a Central Coast Section playoff berth.
The Bulldogs (6-3-1, 4-2) likely need to win their remaining games at Lincoln on Tuesday and against Independence on May 12, Sobrato’s Senior Day.
Live Oak was in a similar position Wednesday after dropping a tough 4-2 decision to visiting Leigh.
The Acorns rode another strong outing by Katie Obbema (three strikeouts, complete game) and received two hits by Patti Monterrey and Kayla Cisneroz, who tripled and scored in the fourth inning.
Live Oak (12-11, 5-5) has to win two of its final four games to qualify for sectionals.
BASEBALL
Underclassmen stepped up Wednesday to help Live Oak beat Branham 4-3 in Mount Hamilton Division play.
Sophomore John Forestieri and freshman Mitch Hickey went two for three with a double and drove in one run apiece as the Acorns won for the second time in four games.
Senior ace Rich Martinez threw a seven-hitter with three strikeouts and four walks for his third victory this season.
Junior Jakob Conlan scored twice for Live Oak (8-15, 5-13).
