‘First Dog’ unleashed today

– The feature film “First Dog” opens at CineLux Theater in Morgan Hill today. The film was shot in Morgan Hill and Gilroy. About 50 Sobrato High School students apprenticed in a mentorship program, holding positions in assistant make-up, props, lighting, sound, set design, and helped construct a scale replica of the Oval Office which was built on the Sobrato Theatre stage. The story is about a boy who discovers a lost dog, who turns out to belong to the President of the United States, but no one believes him. So begins the young boy’s American adventure across the vast country to return the canine to its rightful owner at the White House.

Chance to sell rare coins

– The International Coin Collectors Association is in Morgan Hill at the Ramada Inn, 16115 Condit Road, through Saturday. The show hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The ICCA will be purchasing coins, paper currency, gold and silver on behalf of their global network of collectors, dealers and refineries. This special event is free and open to the public. The amount of the offer depends on the silver or gold content, the collectability, the rarity and the condition. If the guest decides to accept the offer, a check will be issued on the spot.

Walk with the birds

– A series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer, continues from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 13, along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance.

Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. The programs are free, space is limited and reservations are required.
