Car stolen from shopping center parking lot
A maroon 1991 Honda Accord was stolen from the parking lot near Payless Shoes Friday night, police said.
The vehicle’s owner called police about 10:27 p.m., and reported the vehicle went missing sometime after 5 p.m., according to police reports. The car was stolen from its parking spot in the lot at 1057 Cochrane Rd.
The owner told police that no one had permission to use the car, and the owner was in possession of all the keys, police said.
Spooked burglary suspect flees
A suspect caught in the act of burglarizing a vehicle on Del Monte Avenue fled in a Volkswagen Jetta, police said.
The owner of a sport-utility vehicle saw someone rummaging through the trunk of the car parked next to his on the 16900 block of Del Monte Avenue, according to police reports. The car the thief allegedly tried to steal items from was a black Honda.
The crime was reported about 4:53 a.m. Monday, according to police reports.
When the thief saw the man who eventually called police, he became startled and left, police said. The suspect entered a blue or black Volkswagen Jetta.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, about 20, wearing a bandana over his mouth with a shaved head, police said.
