– National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police and community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Health care benefits for veterans

– The Veterans Administration Medical Team will hold an outreach program for all veterans from 1 to 5 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. Hollister. Doctors and nurses will be available to address medical and mental issues as well as a veteran service officer, who will process claims. It is open to residents of Gilroy and Morgan Hill.

Breast Cancer Support Group meets

– A free, drop-in group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month for 90 minutes beginning at 5:30 p.m.. The meetings are open to anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Photo club meets Wednesdays

– The Morgan Hill Photography Club meets the first Wednesday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave. This is a general meeting (bring a photo to share) followed by discussion of photography techniques (topics vary each month). All levels welcome.

Local author to sign books

– Morgan Hill resident and author, Luke Marusiak, published his first book “Marx & Ford,” which explores the consequences of twins’ choices and follows the lives of John and Thomas Staid who are similar in every way, until they grow distant in their beliefs and the paths they take. Marusiak has lived in Morgan Hill with his wife, Diana, and son, David for 13 years. The upcoming book signing is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, Gilroy. More dates to follow.

AARP Safe Driving Class offered

– At the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher course for motorists 50 and older, participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety and new laws. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of this one-day program. No tests, class materials and a certified AARP instructor are provided. There is a minimal DMV certificate fee.
