Family escapes from burning home
The cause of two-alarm fire early Sunday morning remains under investigation, according to Santa Clara County Fire Department Capt. Jim Xavier.
No one was injured in the 1:16am blaze at 321 Via Loma Court.
“The family was already outside the home when we arrived,” Xavier said.
The fire destroyed the garage and caused considerable smoke and heat damage throughout the living area of the home. The blaze appeared to have started in the garage.
Initial damage estimates were $50,000 in structural damage and $20,000-25,000 in damage to contents, Xavier said Monday.
William Brown and his wife lived at the residence just off Hale Avenue, north of Llagas Avenue, and near Murphy Springs Park.
Firefighters said four family turtles were rescued from the burning home.
The smoke and heat damage extended three to four feet down from the ceiling inside the home, he said.
Crews from California Department of Forestry South County, Gilroy Fire Department and Santa Clara County Fire Department responded, Xavier said.
