vs. Aptos Blackout

Score: 2-2 tie

The Fury came from behind to tie the game in the closing minutes at PA Walsh against the Aptos Blackout. The Fury opened scoring through a superb individual effort by Lauren Bertero. Off a Blackout goal kick, Bertero made a deft block, split two defenders and dribbled to the right corner. She angled the kick which deflected off the Blackout goalie’s outstretched hands for the score. The Blackout finished the first-half scoring with two goals in the last 7 minutes. Prior to that, Fury goalie Brianna Canty made 8 stops. Midfielders Cassandra Valenzuela, Melanie Menage, Anna Molyneux, Ariana Santamaria and Kelly Foster frustrated the Blackout with great defense and passing. Alyssa Gummow deep boots kept the Blackout downfield.

In the second half, the Fury back line shut down the Blackout. Emily Mandel thwarted several shots. Fullbacks Kasandra Kachaji, Gina Moreschini, Danielle Dukes and Mika Matsumoto closed off the Blackout at the corners.

Fury goalie Aubrey Young saved the game several times. In a great sequence, Young took a hard Blackout shot to the body, rebounding back to the shooter who shot again only to be blocked a second time.

With minutes left, Nicole Gonzales from the left side, made a perfect crossing pass directly in front of the goal, finding Bertero, who knocked the ball in for the 2-2 tie.
