Cecil H. (John) Truax died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, after a long bout with lung cancer.

“Johnny” died peacefully in his sleep at home, as he had wished, in the care of his good friend and companion for the past six months, Barbara (Bobbie) Nelson, of Daly City.

John was a refrigeration repairman in the southern Santa Clara County area for more than 20 years until his illnesses forced him to retire in 1999. Born in New Mexico on May 18, 1941, to Earl and Cecil Truax, he was the youngest of 14 siblings. He also served as a Navy Seabee for nine years.

His family and friends would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Leslie Schmidt, Dr. Kimberly Shepard and their staff at San Martin and at San Jose Valley Medical Center for doing more than their best for John. Also, a big hug and kiss for Cathy Larson, RN, at Valley Medical Center for her overwhelming kindness to John – he loved her dearly.

He is survived by his loving daughter “Mandy” Allen and her mother Kathy of Kent, Wash. He also is survived by Mark Dambaugh, Kevin Haile, John Lancer, Sal Serros, Bobby Serros, Richard Ayala and Juan Coronado, with whom he spoke with frequently as well as a host of other friends. He will be especially remembered by his good friend Felix Ordiniza of Hollister, who knew him as “Pilgrim” and enjoyed their many Dutch oven “cook-offs.” Felix’ son, Anthony, was his beloved Godson having been born on John’s 43rd birthday.

There will be no funeral at John’s request. A “remembrance party” party is being planned around Navy week with notices going out to those interested in attending. Contact Barbara at (408) 686-0975.
