Two young men made off with $6,000 in cash and an undetermined amount of jewelry in armed robbery Friday afternoon.

They were last seen on foot heading south toward West Main Avenue from the Morgan Hill Shopping Center at Main and Hale Avenue just two blocks from City Hall.

The suspects at approximately 2:25pm, walked into the La Estrellita (The Little Star) store, 237-B W. Main Ave., in the center that is undergoing renovation.

One of the men, who were both described as between 16-21, pointed a handgun at the lone woman clerk. He ordered her to sit on the ground behind the counter, put the gun to her head and demanded money from the safe.

After the clerk opened the safe, her hands were bound with red painters’ tape as she sat on the floor.

Police Lt. Terrie Booten said the clerk was shaken but was not physically harmed.

The second suspect opened the display cases and removed the jewelry and placed it in his backpack.

The suspects also removed a security video tape before fleeing the store.

Both suspects were carrying a black backpack, wearing dark sunglasses and gloves. The weapon was a black handgun.

One suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5-feet, 9-inches tall, wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.

The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male, also about 5-feet, 9-inches tall. He was wearing tannish white pants and a beanie.

Police believe two men were in the shopping center for more than an hour before the holdup took place. They were seen by construction workers sitting at an outdoor table at a restaurant two doors north of the music and jewelry store and walking throughout the center.

Two men matching the general description of the suspects were stopped by police for questioning in nearby Galvan Park a short time after the holdup. They were released after the clerk and a construction worker at the center said they were not associated with the holdup.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 779-7300 or anonymously at Crimestoppers – 778-STOP(7867).
