The Morgan Hill Pee Wee (Silver) Raiders posted their second consecutive shutout by defeating the West Bay Rams 22-0 last weekend. The Raider offense exploded for three score in the first half to put the Raiders up big at halftime.

Leading the offense was tailback Kyle Lappano, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Lappano scored on runs of 41 and 50 yards. Lappano also had a 50-yard punt return for the Raiders. Quarterback Jacob Brendle had a big day as well,, rushing for 54 yards, including a 30-yard TD scamper to start the Raider scoring. Brendle also completed three passes for 30 yards. Tailback Blair Zerr was very productive, rushing for 38 yards and catching one pass for 10 yards. Receiver Brandon Briones ran a reverse for 10 yards, and returned a kick-off for 45 yards. Leading the Raider defensive effort was strong safety Rhett Ramirez who recorded 11 tackles, four for sacks or losses, including a sack of a West Bay Ram in the end zone for a safety. Linebackers Brendle and Jacob Martin each made seven stops.

MH Junior Midgets 8, Bay City 6

Morgan Hill escaped the scare last weekend by squeaking out a victory against a charged-up Bay City team. The Raiders came out flat and overconfident in a game that should have be a laugher. The difference was a successful extra point for MH. Morgan Hill moved the ball on offense, gaining 151 yards, but two interceptions and two fumbles killed drives. The usual solid play of the Raider defense kept the Broncos at bay, keeping the Raiders undefeated through two games. On Saturday, MH will face Hollister, a Division 1 power house, on the road.

Bay City wasted no time capitalizing on MH’s first turnover by running for a rumbling 85-yard touchdown. The point after was missed wide right and that turned out the be a key play in the game.

Playing from behind for the first time this year, MH went 52 yards for the tying score on its next possession. Jeffery Roberts had 19 yards and Michael Dariano also ran for 19, scoring on a four-yard run. The extra point was good and that would be enough for the win. Roberts finished with 43 yards on 10 touches and Dariano lead the backs with 44 yards on 10 attempts.

MH Mighty Mites vs. Bay City

This was the strongest showing for the Raiders to date, as both the offensive and defensive units worked well as a team. The Raiders’ defense, led by Daniel Dunham and Austin Holderfield on the defensive line, and Nicholas Moffit and Nate-Dog Woodward in the secondary, successfully held the Broncos at bay until midway through the first quarter when the Raider offense came on the field for the first time. Drew Glines ran the ball well as he scored one of his two touchdowns in the second quarter.  Late in the game, Blake Porzio completed one of his two successful passes to tight-end Nathan Avila keeping a Raiders’ drive alive on 4th down and 11 yards with a 15 yard completion.
