Wilson, the 2004 San Jose Giants were set to play their California
League season-opener at Visalia on Thursday. The Class A affiliate
of the San Francisco Giants is scheduled to play its home opener at
Municipal Stadium in San Jose on Friday, April 16.
Led by third-year Manager Lenn Sakata, whose staff includes pitching coach and former San Francisco Giants player Trevor Wilson, the 2004 San Jose Giants were set to play their California League season-opener at Visalia on Thursday.
The Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants is scheduled to play its home opener at Municipal Stadium in San Jose on Friday, April 16.
The Giants will host Visalia beginning at 7 p.m. to start a three-game series with the Oaks that continues Saturday and Sunday.
San Jose hosts the Modesto A’s in a four-game series Monday through Thursday the following week.
The Giants’ roster includes 10 returning players from last season’s team, including pitchers Brian Burres, Josh Cram, James Garcia, Anthony Pannone, and Brion Treadway, infielders Julian Benavidez, Julio Cordido and Aaron Sobieraj, and outfielders Zach Strong and Dan Trumble.
Garcia made the California League all-star team last season, while Trumble is third on San Jose’s all-time home run list with 36.
Treadway led the team in wins last season, while Burres was second on the team in appearances with 39.
Two top draft choices will make their debut with San Jose club this season, including pitcher Matt Cain and outfielder Fred Lewis. Both were drafted in 2002.
Bay Area native Brian Stirm, who was born in San Jose and lives in Saratoga, is also set to make his California League debut with San Jose this season.
