Despite preparing to compete at the prestigious Top 8 Invitational at Los Gatos High on Saturday, Live Oak’s Cobbie Jones decided to join her teammates in Thursday’s Tri-County Athletic League dual meet against visiting Salinas.

And, while she didn’t run in her customary 800 and 1,600 events, Jones did compete in the 400 — a new event for her. And, she won, taking first place by six seconds in 60.4.

Meanwhile, Live Oak’s Billy Wong was doing yeoman duty, running in four events — all in rapid succession.

Wong took first place in the 1,600 and 3,200, his usual events, after also competing in the 400 (third place) and the 800 (second place).

However, short-handed Live Oak dropped both the girls and boys team competitions to the Cowboys.

Other top performers for the Acorns in Thursday’s meet included:

  • Heather Molyneaux, who battled injury earlier this season but was a triple winner in the 100, 200 and triple jump.

  • Brandon Powell, who won the 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles.

  • Tanya Tenorio, who won the discus and finished second in the shot put.

  • And, Ashley Ceaser, who won the high jump.

Live Oak is scheduled to compete at North Salinas on Thursday next week, then compete at the Alisal Festival Invitational on Saturday, May 1.
