Capping its inaugural season with a series of postseason all-star games and its team awards, the Live Oak High rugby club team completed a successful run this month.

Live Oak’s Colby Austin (hooker) and Dustin Muhn (wing) competed on the Skyhawk Conference’s Under 19 All Stars during a 46-27 loss to Sacramento Valley at Stanford University’s Stueber Rugby Stadium on May 8, with Muhn scoring a try and adding an assist.

Then Live Oak’s Curtis Giacalone (flanker), Mark Pimentel (flanker) and Austin competed for the Skyhawk U19s in a 50-10 victory over The Bay Conference at the Cal Maritime Academy in Vallejo on May 15.

Meanwhile, the Acorns announced their team awards, which included:

Captain: senior Zach Frates

Most Valuable Forward: senior Marcus Rosevear

Most Valuable Back: sophomore Dustin Muhn

Most Improved Player: senior George Quesada

Most Inspirational Player: senior Brian Crane

The club held its awards ceremony at the Old Machado School, and all players received a Player Evaluation and jacket patch commemorating the 2004 inaugural season.

A special thank you went to Karen Crane and Matt Guidry for their help all season.

James Romero put together a season highlight DVD that was shown at the event.

After the ceremony, the players and their parents traveled to Stanford to watch the Collegiate Rugby Championships.
