The Gavilan baseball team lost to visiting Ohlone College on Thursday, 12-4. Once again, the Rams kept the game close until late when errors opened the door for Ohlone.

After five innings, the Rams (4-24, 4-17 in conference) were within striking distance at 6-4, but Ohlone scored three runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

The Rams tied the score at 1-1 in the first inning with a leadoff home run by B.J. Collom.

In the third inning, Rocco Castanza had a single to score Collom, who had walked.

The Rams had a good chance to score in the second but hit into a double play on what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt.

Todd Gimenez pitched seven innings. He gave up eight runs, but only four of them were earned.

“We haven’t folded up shot yet,” said coach Neal Andrade. “We’re taking baby steps to build our program back to where we want it to be. Right now, we need to work on the fundamentals and the little things to win ball games. We’re going to try to ruin some of the other teams’ playoff chances.”

On Saturday, Gavilan lost 10-4 to conference-leading San Mateo.

This week, the Rams are scheduled to play at West Valley on Tuesday and and host Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday this week. The Rams’ regular season finale is scheduled for this coming Saturday at Chabot.
