Have you always wanted to be in a parade but weren’t sure how or what to do? Or where to find a parade to be in?

Well, have we got a parade for you. Morgan Hill’s Independence Day Celebrations, Inc. (IDI) has the biggest and the best July 4th Parade in Northern California. And it is the official Santa Clara County/Silicon Valley July 4th Parade.

Who should be in the parade? Everyone! It’s fun and the whole family can participate. Parade participants have come from as close as Hollister, Gilroy, Morgan Hill and as far away as Texas, Arizona and London, England. No kidding – one of the pilots in the four vintage Stearman biplanes has come all the way from England to be in the parade with his group, “Spirit of Freedom Flight.” The other three members hail from Hollister, Morgan Hill and Concord. This parade is great!

What would I do in a parade? Decorate a pickup or convertible and gather your friends, neighbors and children to ride and wave at the crowds on the sidewalk. Here’s another fun idea: How about forming a A Stroller Drill Team of busy moms? Or a group of Silicon Valley guys and gals with a A Briefcase Drill Team? Get small American flags, do a simple dance routine, wave at the crowds and have lots of fun. Make a float. The ideas are endless.

Applications are available at BookSmart, the Library, and Chamber of Commerce in Morgan Hill, or call 779-3387 ext. 2 and we’ll be glad to send you one. You can also download an application at the IDI website www.mhidi.com and click on A July 4th Parade. But hurry, the deadline is June 4.

In addition to the July 4th Parade, IDI has a full weekend of terrific events that you are sure to enjoy. Starting on Friday, June 25, there is a golf tournament. Then on Saturday, July 3, enjoy the Patriotic Sing and the Street Dance. Bright and early on July 4 is the 5K Race/Walk followed by the parade and right after the parade head on over to the Community Park for more fun and entertainment until dark when the July 4 holiday ends with spectacular fireworks.

Celebrate Independence Day at home this year.
