Please remind your readers that although they love their dog(s) and may want to take them wherever they go this summer is it safest to leave Fido at home. A dog left in a car on a warm day can collapse from heatstroke in just minutes.
Even opening windows or parking in the shade will not prevent a dog from becoming overheated. Dogs cool themselves by painting; therefore, with only hot air to breath, dogs can suffer brain damage and die of a heatstroke.
Also, please beware that it is dangerous to travel with a dog in a pickup truck bed, especially if unrestrained, since many dogs jump out or fall out. Yet, if traveling with your dog in the back of a truck is the only available option, please make sure to use a proper restraint, such as an appropriately sized dog crate. If using a leash, make sure the animal has a towel or something to stand on since the hot metal can burn the dog’s paws.
