The Santa Clara County Open Space Authority has opened its first open space preserve: Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve west of Morgan Hill.

Tucked into the western foothills of Santa Clara County, Rancho Canada boasts beautiful oak woodlands, native grassland areas, and spectacular scenic views. The Open Space Authority’s goal of preservation, protection and management is evident as the 3,017-acre preserve carefully balances limited public access with preservation of sensitive serpentine habitat, watershed and riparian zones.

“We’re excited about opening the preserve and being able to offer the public a chance to experience the unique beauty that exists at Rancho Canada del Oro,” said General ManagerPatrick Congdon.

Located adjacent to Santa Clara County Parks’ Calero Park, Rancho Canada has two trails; Longwall Canyon Trail (2.7 miles) and Bald Peaks Trail (1.1 miles). The trails, which can only be accessed from Calero County Parks’ Bald Peaks Trail or Serpentine Loop Trail, are open to hikers and equestrians. The new preserve will be open to visitors from dawn to dusk.
