Eight members of the Makos Swim Team represented Morgan Hill at Pacific swimming’s Age Group Championship meet held in Concord July 15-18.

It was a very fast meet, with more than 900 swimmers from more than 70 teams participating.

All eligible entries required a verifiable “AA” time or better.

The local swim team is training toward competing at the Far Western Championships, followed by the Coast Valley Aquatic League Championships, to be hosted at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center Aug. 6-8.

Overall, the team swam to a combined 78-percent lifetime best performance and were led by:

Girls 17-18: Susie Suchomel (18) placed as high as sixth in the 100-meter butterfly with a Q time of 1:11.21.

Girls 13-14: Alisa Pinarbasi (13) placed as high as 21st in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:34.10.

Boys 13-14: Mike Wu (13) raced to third place, the team’s highest individual placing, in the 400-meter freestyle, recording a Pacific Reportable Time of 4:30.44, and breaking a 16-year-old team record at the same time.

In the 200-meter breaststroke, teammate Steven Rick (13) placed fifth with a qualifying Q time of 2:47.30.

Girls 11-12: The highest placing was by Katie Rick (11), who raced to fifth place in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:49.43.

Boys 11-12: Danny Thompson (12), who placed as high as 16th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:22.04.

Girls 9-10: The squad was completed by the 19th place finish of Kortney Kay (9) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:49.72), and the 29th place finish of Amber Acevedo (10) in the 100-meter backstroke (1:34.12).

Since 1962, the Morgan Hill Swim Club has been a part of USA Swimming, and is a repeat USA Swimming bronze medal award club for the 2004-2005 season.

The Makos train year-round in Morgan Hill, and offer opportunities for children ages 6-18.
