So many times when I stroll down the practice tee I see golfers just swinging away hitting one ball after another with no intended target. That’s fine if you’re just burning calories, but not an effective way to practice. That’s why you need to create a practice station. First, set a club about a foot behind the ball pointed at the your intended target. Set another club two feet in front of the ball on the same line. Next, place a third club for your feet a foot or so parallel to the two you placed on the target line. Then go behind to make sure that everything is aligned correctly. It should look like a set of railroad tracks pointed at the target with the outside rail on the target line and the inside rail for your toes parallel pointed slightly left of the target. Now you’re aimed correctly. This will also train your eyes on how the target should look on the golf course. The great teacher Harvey Penick once said, take dead aim. Remember it’s the quality in how you practice not the quantity.
