Melissa Ann Ferro died Dec. 23, 2003, of respiratory failure while asleep at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Portland, Oregon.
Born at Stanford Hospital, Stanford, Jan. 29, 1988, Melissa lived in Morgan Hill until January 2001 at which time her family moved to McMinnville, Oregon, and later to Salem. She suffered from a rare form of muscular dystrophy but remained active with the aid of a power wheel chair. She was a sophomore at West Salem High School. Melissa maintained high academic and personal achievements and was a source of inspiration to those who knew her.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Bill and Pam Ferro of Salem; grandmothers Margaret Ferro of Menlo Park and Alberta Harris of Jamestown; and several aunts and uncles.
Memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Morgan Hill.
