Former mayor and longtime barber John Sorci, who’s been doing an informal, local election poll for years and years, says Councilman Greg Sellers will beat Mayor Dennis Kennedy for the mayor’s position by a landslide.
The same poll shows Mark Grzan and Larry Carr well ahead in the pack of five running for two council seats.
“I’m usually right about this,” Sorci said.
Customers in his shop register their preference.
Sellers received 75 percent of about 100 votes, Sorci said.
“It’s just this sort of thing that makes Morgan Hill such a delightful small town place to live,” Carr said when informed of the results.
That Grzan, who has served on many city commissions and committees but never run for office, would poll ahead of Carr, who wants a second four-year term on the council after a stretch as school board trustee, goes against expectations.
The two lead three newcomers, Julia Starling, Allan Abrams and Kelly Bell Kubica for the council seats.
Sorci’s mayoral poll numbers are unexpected, especially since Kennedy is well-known as mayor and, if the number and size of campaign signs is any indication, Kennedy could be thought to poll better. However, Sorci says, his poll has predicted the right outcomes before – a lot.
Sellers claims it’s time for a change and, possibly, barbershop customers agree.
“It’s Norman Rockwell come to life,” Sellers said about the results.
