Next time you
’re watching a tournament on television, pay attention to how
some of the pro’s place the ball on the putting green. You’ll
notice some of then spending a little more time positioning the
ball. What they’re doing is aligning the logo of the ball or a line
they have drawn on the ball to help
with align the putter up to the hole. Some ball manufactures
have a line already painted on the ball.
Next time you’re watching a tournament on television, pay attention to how some of the pro’s place the ball on the putting green. You’ll notice some of then spending a little more time positioning the ball. What they’re doing is aligning the logo of the ball or a line they have drawn on the ball to help with align the putter up to the hole. Some ball manufactures have a line already painted on the ball. There is a teaching aid we use in our schools out on the market called the straight-line. This device allows you to draw a perfect line on the ball. If you notice the illustration, I‘ve drawn a line on the ball which is parallel to the lines on the putter head. You’ll see it’s in line with the hole, or my intended target line. This is reassuring me that I’m aimed correctly and giving me confidence that I’ll start the ball on the right line. Practice this technique before you take it to the course, it will take some time before you get use to it. The rules allow you to position the ball as long as there is a coin placed behind it. Once you lift the coin the ball is in play. If you’re not sure the lines aren’t aligned with the intended target, place the coin back behind the ball before moving it, otherwise you’ll be in breach of the rule.
