This is my last opportunity to publicly thank all those who have allowed me to accomplish what I needed to as interim exec. This not only includes the Chamber Board, staff and membership but the people and organizations we work with including the city, other chambers and organizations such as the Downtown Association, IDI, Kiwanis and Rotary to name just a few.

My mission is now truly accomplished.

What was my mission? As I’ve previously stated when I took over the job on April 19, I could only describe it as interesting. It then went to fun despite the hard work throughout. My agenda items included:

• Stabilizing relationships within and between the Chamber’s staff and membership

• Stabilizing relationships between the Chamber and its appurtenant organizations

• Redefining and creating a new budget

• Preparing for and hiring my replacement

• Making a seamless transition throughout it all.

Have I been successful? I think so but time will tell. I’d like to hear from you one way or the other. I’ve received some nice comments both by snail mail and e-mail. For every one I receive there are usually at least 20 others with the same feeling.

Thanks again.

Best excuse for speeding

A fellow bought a new Jaguar and was out on an interstate road for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through his hair and he decided to open her up. As the needle jumped up to 80 mph he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him. “They’ll never catch me,” he thought to himself and opened her up further.

The needle hit 90, 100, 110 and finally 120 with the lights still behind him. “What in the hell am I doing?” he thought and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car. “I’ve had a tough shift and this is my last pull over. I don’t feel like more paperwork so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven’t heard before you can go!” he said.

“Last week my wife ran off with a cop,” the man said, “and I was afraid you were trying to give her back!”

“Have a nice night,” said the officer.
