The Live Oak Athletic Booster Club will be holding its annual Phone-A-Thon on Tuesday night. Based upon the results of last year, the event coordinators continue to believe that the campaign is more effective reaching families at home on a weeknight as opposed to a Saturday.
The Boosters received great support during their fall membership mail campaign, registering approximately 125 members who contributed about $15,000. But there remains concern by the club since membership still remains low from its peak of nearly 300 members in the 2000-01 school year.
“We really do appreciate the support we’ve received thus far,” said Club President Pam Mom. “But we really need to get the attention of the parents of all athletes. The community was again very generous in supporting our golf tournament this year, and our membership renewal earlier this semester has been wonderful. But golfer participation was less than half of last year and as a result the funds we generated are also about half of what we generated last year. We can’t continue funding all sports at the same pace as earlier years with the support of less than 20 percent of the families of athletes.”
The Phone-A-Thon will take place from 6:30-8:30pm. For additional information contact Pam Mom at 778-7860.
