Cierra Creer, a 6th grade student at Oakwood Country School has won Independence Day Inc (IDI)’s 2004 Design Contest.

The competition challenged local budding artists to create an artistic vision of the American flag. Cierra’s Van Gogh- inspired acrylic depicts blooming irises with stars and stripes on their petals. The vibrant image will be featured on Morgan Hill’s 2004 4th of July T-Shirts and Events Program.

Her original painting will be on display at the Street Dance on July 3, and Family Festival on July 4. Creer will be awarded a $100 savings bond, gift certificates from BookSmart and Art Scene and a T-Shirt graced with her painting, to be presented at the Street Dance on July 3.

Creer’s original painting, as well as those of runners-up and a selection of this year’s essay contest winners, will be displayed in the Diana Murphy Room at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center through the end of July.

2002’s winning cover art was a watercolor by Live Oak student Kristin Hillman. Carden Academy student Stefania Mercante’s collage that won in 2003 was also featured in the City of Morgan Hill’s 2004 Recycle Calendar.
