What is the correct ball position? There is too much confusion from books and articles about ball position. Some start with the driver off the left heel then move the ball back — inch with every club with the wedge in the center of the stance. That’s OK if you hit five hundred balls a day. Try this approach; at address with your feet together place the ball in the middle of your stance. With your short irons, (8,9,PW, SW) move your left heel two or three to the left then your right the same distance to the right, this puts the ball in the middle. With the middle irons, (5, 6, 7) move your right foot only two more inches to the right, this moves the ball slightly forward of center. The long irons and woods, move the right foot only just outside the width of your right shoulder. The key, the ball position never changed relative to your left heel thus keeping your shoulders square to the target line. This will lead to a more consistent set up, in results more consistent shots.
