For children ages 6-10, and parents and toddlers ready to learn, the Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose has plenty to offer this summer.
The museum is offering a workshop for children ages 4-5 and their caregivers which is designed for fun and education. The children will pour, mix and explore with an experienced facilitator, while caregivers gain insights into their child’s learning process through participation, reflection and discussion. Together they can explore science, the arts and creative expression in these fun workshops.
The “Sand Sand Sand” workshop is great fun and touches all developmental areas of a child’s growth. Participants find ways to use sand play for learning in the areas of science, math and art. This workshop takes place Saturday, July 17, 1-2 p.m. Members cost is $17 for one adult and one child age 4-5. Non-members cost is $20 for one adult and one child age 4-5. Adults may bring one additional child age 4-5 for an added fee of $8 for members or $9 for non-members. Pre-registration is required at least one week prior to workshop.
For slightly older children, the museum is offering a different workshop. Children ages 6-10 will focus on creativity, problem solving, teamwork and experimentation in these hands-on workshops. Caregivers can choose from a variety of exciting topics and are welcome, but not required to attend.
The “Today’s Forecast: Fun!” workshop takes place Sunday, July 18, 1-3 p.m. Future meteorologists will be pouring in for this wacky weather workshop. Measure wind with an anemometer, learn about clouds, make thermometers, and test tornado tubes. By the end of class, young weather watchers will have their own kit to forecast from home. Don’t forget to visit our summer exhibit, Scholastic’s The Magic School Bus Kicks Up A Storm, before you blow out of here. Take advantage of our Hot Summer Special: Members will receive a $5 discount on workshop fees.
Members cost is $27 for one child age 6-10; adults welcome for no charge. Non-members cost is $30 for one child age 6-10; adults welcome for no charge. Pre-registration is required at least one week prior to workshop.
