IDI has been working hard for months to make the 2004 Festivities better than ever. 2004 marks the 110th consecutive year that Morgan Hill has celebrated the 4th of July.
More than 35,000 people attend the annual festivities, which consist of seven events: a golf tournament on June 25, a youth patriotic sing (including an essay contest), a street dance, a 5K run/walk, a parade, a family festival and fireworks. The patriotic sing, street dance, parade, festival and fireworks are all free of charge to the public.
Saturday, July 3, starts with the Patriotic Sing at Britton School under the musical direction of Karen Crane.
Patriotic essay contest winners will be presented, for a truly heartwarming kickoff to the Fourth.
The evening heats up with the Street Dance downtown with live entertainment, food and drink.
The official Fourth of July T-Shirts, featuring competition winner Cierra Creer’s art, will be available for sale.
July 4th starts off with a Pancake Breakfast at PA Walsh School and the Freedom 5K Run/Walk.
IDI awards prizes for the best patriotic costumed runner as well as the fastest competitorsand day registration is available.
The Parade will start at 11:30 a.m. this year, to accommodate local religious services along the usual route (Monterey, Main, Peak and Dunne).
Ten years ago, the Morgan Hill parade was named THE official parade of Santa Clara County. In 2003, it was officially ranked the best and biggest parade in Northern California, overtaking Redwood City’s prestigious parade. So join the crowds and wave a flag.
The fun will continue at the Family Festival at Community Park (West Edmunson near Monterey) from 12:30 to dusk. There will be live entertainment all day, a KidZone, a pie-eating contest, arts and crafts vendors and a variety of food & beverage booths.
. The fireworks will start at dusk at Community Park, barring delays due to wind.
All money collected for any IDI event is used to underwrite the events.
Parking at Community Park: a $10 donation.
IDI is still recruiting volunteers for all events. Along with undying gratitude and the comfort of community involvement, volunteers receive an invitation to a thank you barbecue, and access to the VIP Hospitality tent at the Street Dance and Festival.

Morgan Hill’s Independence Day, Inc. (IDI) is a non-profit, all-volunteer committee that organizes and operates Morgan Hill’s annual 4th of July festivities. The events are staffed entirely by community volunteers. Co-sponsored by the City of Morgan Hill, IDI is also supported financially by local business sponsorships and private residents’ contributions.
