Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose is one of a select number of vascular laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to exceed the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) standards for noninvasive vascular testing.

Since 1995 the Good Samaritan Vascular Lab has been accredited by the ICAVL, but a renewal of status is required every three years. After a lengthy qualification process in 2003, including a thorough assessment and review of Good Samaritan’s Vascular Laboratory, daily hospital protocols and quality assurance testing, the ICAVL awarded the hospital re-accreditation in the following areas of testing: Extracranial Cerebrovascular, Peripheral Venous, Peripheral Arterial and Visceral Vascular.

Every 32 seconds a person in America dies of cardiovascular disease. About 61 million Americans, almost one-fourth of the population, have some form of cardiovascular disease. Health costs, including medical services, medications and lost work time, exceed 83 billion dollars annually. Two million people in the United States develop deep vein thrombosis (DVT), also known as blood clots, in the veins each year. Over 500,000 people with DVT are at risk for developing potentially fatal blood clots to their lungs, called pulmonary emboli.
