Dutra, Costello lead Acorns
’ scoring charge, goalie Anvari solid in net
Seven Live Oak High hockey players had one heck of a season finale Friday night.
Up against the larger squads of both Fremont and Mountain View high schools, Live Oak proved that skill and teamwork brings home the title, defeating Fremont 9-2 and Mountain View 10-5 in the fall championship finals.
Live Oak’s defense remained rock-solid, giving their opponents few opportunities to score.
LO goalie Michael Anvari was on top of his game, earning the best record in the division this season.
Live Oak’s offense was unstoppable with leading scorers Kyle Dutra and Brian Costello scoring 15 out of the 19 goals in the two-game finals.
Dutra and Costello were the top scorers in the division this season.
Defender Conner Williamson scored three goals, and teammate Scott Alexander added a goal in the finals.
Meanwhile, LO’s Matt Edgar and Ricky Lasher contributed to key offensive plays.
Coach Tim Simpson said: “The team will most likely advance a division next season and is ready for the challenge.”
Signups will begin for the winter season starting Jan. 4. Live Oak hopes to add a second team, giving the program A and B squads.
The Acorns need lots of players and another goalie so all interested should go to the Live Oak High ASB office for information.
