The Santa Clara County Library System board of directors decided Thursday to ask voters to decide issues on a mail-in ballot this April:

• Should the $33.66 tax that property owners pay to help operate the Morgan Hill (and other county libraries) be continued at that rate past June 2005?

• Or, are property owners willing to pay the $33.66 plus an additional $12, once a year to return Mondays to the libraries, a total of $45.66?

The mail-in balloting will be lieu of a special election where voting takes place at polling places.

The tax, if approved, would last for 10 years. It has no cost of living raise. The measure will need a two-thirds approval from those voting.
