What’s up with the construction on Burnett Avenue?

The school district told Red Phone in early September that construction would be finished really soon. It’s now January and work is still going on.

Businesses in the area – most notably The King and I Thai Restaurant – are finding their customers driven away by construction.

Clearly some work has been done because, in mid January the road looks almost finished, stressing the word “almost” – but it is not finished and the restaurant’s parking lot is not 100 percent welcome-looking.

School district Director of Construction and Modernization, Al Solis, did not return several phone calls asking for a completion date.

We hate to be always picking on the school district but, really guys, have a heart. People’s livelihood is at stake here.

While we wait for the promised land of a burnished Burnett, the least we can do is stop into The King and I and have some great food.

B&P Marine and other businesses share the parking lot too; you could stop by and buy some marine stuff.

Red Phone on Hold, which is published Tuesday’s in The Times, will help you keep up to date about how your community concerns are being dealt with. Reader calls that have not been adequately addresses will be featured each week.
