Dick was born Nov. 25, 1929, in San Francisco, He graduated from U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt Hall Law School. He served in the U.S. Army and practiced law in San Jose where he met and married Joan. He began his practice of law in Gilroy in 1965. Together with his wife, Dick created the Harrison & Harrison practice, a fixture in Gilroy for more than 35 years.

He was involved in many community affairs including the boards of Gilroy School District building corporation, the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. Dick was a member of the Gilroy Planning Commission, volunteered for the Salvation Army, and taught community education courses at Gavilan College. He had lifelong interests in botany and gardening, meteorology, astronomy, geography, the history of Gilroy and his native San Francisco.

Dick and Joan recently moved to the University Retirement Community in Davis. He was a good, decent and respected man.

He was the son of Vera and John J. Harrison; husband of Joan A. Harrison; father of Lois and David Harrison; and grandfather of Simon and Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his mother Vera Harrison.

Memorial service takes place at 2pm Saturday, Feb. 5, at Gilroy Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.

The family asks that any donations be made to Gilroy Friends of the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St., or a favorite charity.
