Ann Moyer (Backers) Silva died peacefully in her sleep last week.

Ann was born in Washington, D.C., on May 16, 1935, later living in and attending school in San Francisco. She used her MS in Nursing and her training in specialized courses to care for patients needing critical care and hospice services. She worked as a hospice nurse in Morgan Hill. Those who knew Ann acknowledged her “gift” for assisting both adults and children who were in pain and/or facing death. Ann’s strong belief that people should be allowed to “die with dignity” helped her bring comfort and peace to many patients and families.

Ann was mother to four children: Carl Backers of Morgan Hill, Lisa Backers Koltun, Angela Backers of South County and Steven Backers; and grandmother of nine.

Friends wishing to remember her may make donations to the Ann Moyer Silva account at the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation (www.makewish.org). Ann’s family chose this foundation because they know how rewarding it was for Ann to help children with terminal illness realize their wishes and dreams. Her yard and home were filled with the other love in her life … hundreds of teddy bears. In her honor, the family donated Ann’s bear collection to Shriner’s Hospital and shelters for women and children. In this way, her generous and giving spirit will continue to help those in need.

Memorial service takes place at 4pm on Saturday, Jan. 8, at Adventure Christian Church, Roseville.

Arrangements were under the direction of Lincoln Funeral Home.
