Police arrested a Freedom man on suspicion of driving under the influence – the sixth time he would be charged for the crime in the last nine years, police said.

Gildardo Ortiz, 32, was arrested in a traffic stop about 12 p.m. Aug. 29, Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said. He was pulled over driving a red 1990 Honda Accord near the intersection of Monterey Road and Vineyard Boulevard, after another motorist called police to report his suspiciously impaired driving.

After failing field sobriety tests, Ortiz was found to have been driving with twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system, Neumayer said. Because he had five prior DUI arrests, he was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI.

He was also booked on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, Neumayer said.
