“Red Phone, what’s the huge pile of earth west of U.S. 101 at Coyote Creek Golf Drive all about? There’s this huge pile of earth and trucks are working at night. What are they building or storing there?”
“Red Phone, I have noticed some pretty major grading taking place on the west side of (U.S.) 101 at Coyote Creek. It looks like an old garbage dump when they dig in to it. The trail has been re-routed around the construction. What is going on there?”
“Hi, Red Phone, Can you tell me what they are doing at the off-ramp for Coyote Creek Golf Course off (U.S.) 101. They only work at night and for the past few months, it seems like all they are doing is moving dirt. Are they building something there and if so what?”
Red Phone: Dear What’s It All About, Red Phone contacted Bernard Walik, public information officer for Caltrans, who said it is excess material generated from the U.S. 101 grinding project.
“The contractor (who performed the paving) leased the property from Caltrans for about one year to temporarily store the materials removed from the grinding operation,” Walik said. “They will permanently remove it around June 2011.”
There you have it, good callers. Hope that clears things up.
Illegally parked trucks are an eyesore
“We now have two gravel trucks parked on Watsonville Road at Calle Enrique. I thought Watsonville Road was a designated scenic road with special restrictions. These trucks are an eyesore. They are there all weekend and every evening through the night.”
Red Phone: Dear What an Eyesore, Red Phone responded to a similar question regarding oil spilling from a truck earlier this year.
Those trucks usually park on the south side of Watsonville Road, which is in county jurisdiction, and they normally leave after several days. If they don’t, call the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office at 686-3650.
Hope that helps, good caller.
