County should at the very least help Lions find a new home
Dear Editor,
I read an article in today’s (June 22) Morgan Hill Times (what would we do without the Morgan Hill Times?) that appalled me.
Don Gage was quoted as saying “I can understand their situation, but I can’t sympathize with them.” That’s like saying “let them eat cake” and the person that supposedly said that had her head lopped off.
You can’t sympathize with all the 4H kids that are being thrown out on the street. You can’t sympathize with all the good work that the Lions Club does being thrown out on the street. You can’t sympathize with all the elderly bingo players being thrown out on the street. You can’t sympathize with the South County Dancers being thrown out on the street. You can’t sympathize with all the other good work being done in that building being thrown out on the street. For shame!!! For shame!!! This is a building the Lions Club built with their own hands and money. This is a building the Lions Club has maintained with their own money for the last 30 years. This is a building the county wants to rent to Gavilan College for more money (do I hear greed?) so they can have a classroom at the airport for 10 aviation students at the expense of hundreds and hundreds of people that now use this building. This building is also the San Martin Community Center. I thought “government was for the people.” If you are going to kick these people out at least have the decency to find a place for them. The people of San Martin have been under the heel of the county for too long. It just goes on and on.
I think Don Gage needs to explain himself.

Something must be done to save San Martin Community Center
Dear Editor,
I am stunned to hear the news about the county kicking the Lions Club out of the community hall in San Martin. I have attended many Perchlorate Community Advisory Group meetings at the Lions Hall, as well as political events, including for a while South County Democratic Club meetings. Congressman Jerry McNerney has attended a number of events there, as well as John Laird and Bill Monning. The Lions Hall has truly been a community center for not only San Martin, but for Morgan Hill, Gilroy and beyond. We hated the acoustics and it was always too hot or too cold, but is was free to use it and everyone knew where it was.
I understand the county wanting that property to be “profitable” but at whose expense? The county citizens and voters that use the facility? Or the many non-profit organizations that use it day in and day out to try to make South County a better place to raise our families.
And then there is the community of San Martin, a small rural town with a disenfranchised population, losing one of it’s few real assets, while still the home of the counties hazardous material dump, the County Transfer Station (another dump) on Llagas Creek no less, and of course the South County Airport. I understand that the Lions Hall is on County Airport land. San Martin is not self governed like other cities in South County; the town cannot send it’s mayor and city council to the county to protest because it has no mayor or council.
So it appears this is just another case of the county pushing its will on the town of San Martin because the county knows that San Martin cannot push back. The saddest part is that once again it is the county residents who are the losers. The very people that the county is committed to “serve.”
Is there anything that can be done?

Far left liberal columnist suffers from ‘know-it-all-itis’
Dear Editor,
So, Lisa Pampuch has the Tea Partiers all figured out. Oh! I get it. Speak your opinion and fly the American flag only when it suits her. Welcome to the world of far-left liberals.
If we do not agree with the present administration’s policies and protest we are automatically labeled racist. They are stuck on the “R” word, a word that is now being thrown out carelessly and bounced around like a ping-pong ball, that they are hoping that we will all run and cower from. She has become the expert on who is a true patriot and who is flying the flag accordingly. Otherwise, sit down and keep your mouth shut! I am glad that Ms. Pampuch likes the way the country is being handled by these Chicago thugs who are trying to ruin our country, but there are many of us who do not. Since we have such a liberal media, this is a way to let our voices be heard. Not much changes until people get angry and take a stand. This is not a bad thing. Complaining is the ultimate act of optimism, it means that we think things could be better.
After reading some of Lisa’s far left rantings, I have decided that she suffers from an affliction called “know-it-all-itis,” and the only cure is pulling her head out of the sand. That you may not be flying the American flag this Fourth of July does not surprise me, but I think using the Tea Partiers is just an excuse. Hey! No hard feelings. Since we are not going away any time soon, why not come on down to our Morgan Hill Tea Party from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. this Saturday.
You may be enlightened to see that we are peaceful people with good intentions who only want the best for our country. (I keep looking over my shoulder to find some of the villainous people the far left have described but have found none). I will even buy you a cup of coffee (tea?) and a bagel. Oh! I’m the one holding the sign that reads “Foreclose on the Whitehouse.”
