success with about 400 in attendance from as far north as Petaluma,
where members competed in a variety of business and
business-related events.
Under great sunny skies, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Bay Section Conference held at Live Oak High School was huge success with about 400 in attendance from as far north as Petaluma, where members competed in a variety of business and business-related events.

Members from Live Oak who took honors included Allen Cunanan, second, Economics; Aaron Cunanan, third, Economics; Kerstin Bowen, third, Word Processing II; Tiffany Shyuan, fourth, Future Business Leader; Minna Chan, fifth, FBLA Principles and Procedures; Roger Alcaraz, sixth, Job Interview; and the team of Simmi Dhillon, Elaine Liu, and Tiffany Shyuan, sixth, Entrepreneurship.

The members who ranked in the top five places will have the opportunity to compete in their respective events at the State Leadership Conference against their counterparts from throughout California. The State event takes place April 28 through May 1 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.

In addition, there were some excellent workshops including “The Key to Getting Hired: Resume + Interview” given by Jeff Sanders, a human resources person at Silicon Graphics, Inc., “Choose an Option – Rent, Lease, Buy Your Housing for College” presented by Don Cowan, teacher and real estate broker.

Members ran for positions to become Bay Section officers for the 2005-2006 and year and each person did his best to get the votes of the membership.

Entertainment was provided by some very talented members from Live Oak. Starting the program was Minna Chan, a member of the Chinese Firebird Youth Orchestra, who played a number on the zipher, a Chinese musical instrument. Simmi Dhillon performed an Indian dance in her native costume. Vincent Hatakeyama and Roger Alcaraz demonstrated various Judo moves for the audience. The group of Kerstin Bowen, Dorothy Mou, Kathy Mou, and Christine Nguyen did a dance choreographed to some of the current popular teenage music.

The finale, to the audience’s delight, was Yatta performed by the group of Billy Wong, Roger Alcaraz, Brent Hatakeyama, Larry Kadoyama and Chris who won the Lip Scene contest at Live Oak recently.
