Small earthquake occurs near Tres Pinos

A 3.9 magnitude earthquake sent a quick shake through Gilroy and
Morgan Hill at 5:51 p.m. Monday. The epicenter of the temblor was
27 miles south west of Morgan Hill in Aromas.

The Morgan Hill Police Department had no reports of damage or possible injuries at 15 minutes after the quake struck.

According to the United States Geological Survey’s website, the quake was 3.3 miles beneath the Earth’s surface and could be felt in Watsonville (about seven miles from the epicenter in Aromas), Hollister (14 miles) and as far away as San Jose (53 miles).

A USGS official said the quake likely happened along the San Andreas fault.
