You may have seen us at the Taste of Morgan Hill. We collected 1,000 plus signatures on a petition against the city’s proposed addition of auto dealerships extending from the current Courtesy Chevy to approximately the Kindercare Center. They also include streets that would connect Dunne directly into this residential area which would allow for these proposed dealerships to use our neighborhood as a test drive drag strip.
The Citizens for Responsible Development is a very grass-roots group that wants to work with the city to ensure planning of commercial developments is done in a long-term, efficient manner. We are not, by any means, a no-growth coalition. We strongly realize the city’s need to expand services and its tax base. But, this can be done in a manner that is pleasing and profitable for all.
Putting car dealerships next to families who would suffer the consequences of additional significant noise and pollution (dealerships are required to post Prop. 65 warnings for hazardous materials) is not only poor planning, but a shotgun result of council members yielding to short-term financial problems rather than long-term citizen responsibility.
Cast your vote November for the City Council candidates that support long-term, favorable conditions for our city. With the construction of Coyote Valley and San Jose developments continually moving south, Morgan Hill needs to stop using impulse and start using intellect and ethical integrity.
