Local law enforcement agencies are on the lookout for a youth who escaped custody while at the juvenile detention facility in Morgan Hill, according to one probation official.
“As of 2/28/2017, a youth who absconded from the custody of the James Ranch has not been located,” according to an emailed response from Deputy Chief Nick Birchard from the county’s Juvenile Institutions Division. “The Probation Department is working in collaboration with local Law Enforcement Agencies to safely return the youth to the custody of the Probation Department.”
No other details were provided upon request.
However, an NBC Bay Area news report claimed the youth escaped last weekend during transport back to the detention center after being evacuated earlier due to flooding in the area.
William F. James Boys Ranch, located in northeast Morgan Hill, houses minors aged 15 to 18 years old who have been committed for six to 12 months due to their involvement in juvenile delinquency.
